National Champs: Indiana Hoosiers

Dreams and legends are what Indiana basketball is all about.

The legends of Hoosier basketball are numerous and include all-time leading scorer #12, Steve Alford, as well as the basketball genius of coach Bobby Knight. Indiana had a reputation of not using junior college players... But this changed with the arrival of transfer player Keith Smart and others.

The Indiana basketball program strives for excellence with a never give-up spirit of reaching for the national championship. Time and time again in the 1987 season, Indiana had to come from behind to win so the dream could stay alive.

With only a few seconds on the clock, in the final game against Syracuse, junior college transfer player Keith Smart shot a jumper from the corner. It arched through the air and rippled the net, giving Bobby Knight his third title and the Hoosiers the dream of being national champions.
